If inflicting harm on your enemies is what you seek, the Voodoo Doll is not your answer. Because it isn’t what Hollywood has made it out to be. For starters, the practice of Voodoo stems from the West African ideology that says everything is spirit - hence the word ‘Vodou’ which is a Fon word that means “spirit”.

And, while people of West Africa, Haiti and New Orleans did use dolls in their religious rituals, they didn’t typically use them as pin cushions for people who had wronged them. Some were used for healing, while other dolls were hung in cemeteries to create open lines of communication between the recently departed. In other words, you’d be better off throwing a doll at someone’s head than torturing it in the hope of revenge.
