Off-brand for Rise from the Ashes Season…
The poster child for extinct animals, the Dodo bird sits firmly on the list of good things that humans ruined. The first time we as a species laid eyes upon the creature was in 1507. By 1681, there were no more dodos.
Over-harvesting of the birds, combined with competition from newly introduced animals was too much for their species to survive. Before humans, the dodo led a blessed life. On their native island of Mauritius, there were no predatory mammals, reptiles or even large insects and so no no need to evolve any natural defenses.
Even if we did want to bring the flightless bird back from extinction à la Jurassic Park, there are barely enough preserved remains of the creature for this to be possible.
