Myths and Legends Week 3 - Newsletter Preview

Newsletters are pretty good, right? I mean, not everyone's newsletter obviously. That would be pretty difficult, but round here at CUE Towers, we like to think we put together a pretty neat little package every week. In fact, it's positively bursting with cool stuff.

We throw in a little quiz about our cards (just 3 questions, we're not monsters), some wise words from interesting people of the world, some good news (cause we all need that sometimes), a sneak peek video on the week's cards care of our own inimitable AvidJoe, and we even drop an extra dose of cool knowledge about a new card.

This week's card spotlight comes in the form of Sebastian, King of Portugal. And cause we're so nice, here's what that looks like:

"For 60 years, Portugal lost its independence - all because one young king thought invading Morocco was a brilliant career move.

It's 1557, and little Sebastian, all of three years old, suddenly finds himself king of Portugal. His father had died just two weeks after Sebastian’s birth, and his mum? She ditched Portugal for Spain, leaving Sebastian to be moulded by religious zealots and overprotective royals.

By the time Sebastian took control at 14, he was obsessed with the idea of leading a grand expedition to Morocco. So, in 1578, against all sound advice, Sebastian gathered up 17,000 men and set sail for North Africa. His grand plan: to help a deposed Moroccan sultan and stick it to the Ottomans. Spoiler alert: it didn't end well. At the Battle of Alcácer Quibir, Sebastian and his army got absolutely demolished by a force four times their size.

Sebastian's body was never conclusively identified. Last seen charging into battle, he simply vanished, leaving Portugal without an heir. A dynastic crisis ensued, with the Spanish Felipe II coming out on top. Soon after, Felipe II united the governments of the Iberian Peninsula, bringing a temporary end to Portugal’s independence."

See, you don't get cool history lore drops from just any newsletter, huh?

Don't worry, we've always got something special there. Every single week.

Keep it CUE, folks.
