Shinigami are spirits in Japanese Folklore that invite humans towards death; a subject that it's difficult to do research on right now because Grimes (a musical artist of some repute) just dropped "Shinigami Eyes", and it's hogging all the SEO for the term. You can give it a month or two for the song to fade into obscurity as so much pop music does, or you can grab its CUE card to find out about these heralds of the afterlife!

And I'm aware that a Shinigami is a prominent character in the popular "Death Note" anime - would it surprise you to learn that there is more than one pop-culture phenomenon this writer is not all that familiar with?
