Born in Armenia in 1904, Arshile Gorky's life was marked by tragedy, travel, and a constant reinvention of self and style. His work was a melting pot of influences, from the traumatic experiences of the Armenian Genocide to the avant-garde styles he absorbed in New York.

Over the years, Gorky's art evolved from sombre, surrealistic landscapes to vibrant, abstract compositions. Sadly, at the height of his success, Gorky’s life took a tragic turn. A fire consumed his studio, along with dozens of artworks. Soon after, he faced a cancer diagnosis, leading to surgery. Then, a car accident left him with a broken neck, rendering him unable to paint. Eerily, Gorky’s works have been linked to mysterious incidents, including paintings reportedly falling from walls, catching on fire, and a ghostly presence.
