Get ready to go bananas for… well, Bananas because these berries are beloved worldwide by humans and animals alike.
Get ready to go bananas for… well, Bananas. These berries are beloved worldwide by humans and animals alike. Yes, we said berries. Botanically, bananas are considered berries, and the plants they grow on are considered giant herbs.
Originating in Southeast Asia, bananas have been cultivated for thousands of years, spreading to all corners of the globe. Today, they’re a staple in diets worldwide, packed with potassium, vitamin C and dietary fibre. Now, you’ve probably heard the rumour that humans share about 50% of their genes with bananas - while this is technically true, it doesn’t mean we're half banana. It simply means that many basic biological functions, like cell growth and DNA replication, are so fundamental that they are preserved across vastly different species through evolution (including us and bananas.)
