When we’re cranky, we’ll huff, slam some doors and play “One Step Closer” by Linkin Park VERY LOUDLY. When the Black Rain Frog gets grumpy, it’ll puff up like an angsty black balloon.
When we’re cranky, we’ll huff, slam some doors and play “One Step Closer” by Linkin Park VERY LOUDLY. When the Black Rain Frog gets grumpy, it’ll puff up like an angsty black balloon. And if you do a quick Google image search, you’ll notice that almost every picture is a frog balloon because these little guys get mad a lot.
The Black Rain Frog hails from the southern coast of Africa and is a burrowing frog, meaning they prefer to lurk underground rather than hang out round the lily pond like their other froggy relatives. They’re solitary beasts, however when mating season comes along, they will venture out of their burrows to find a wee friend. During this time, the female frog will secrete a sticky substance on her back so that the males don’t fall off. A truly classy lassie.
Fun fact - the Black Rain Frog’s young do not have a tadpole stage but emerge from their eggs as a teeny tiny version of the adult. In this stage, they’re called froglets. And, yes, they’re still mad at you.
