Who’s the daddy? Well, that’s a tricky one, because the term "Daddy Long Legs" refers to different creatures depending on where you are in the world.
Who’s the daddy? Well, that’s a tricky one, because the term "Daddy Long Legs" refers to different creatures depending on where you are in the world. In the U.S., it's often used for long-legged harvestmen, arachnids that aren't spiders. In the UK, Canada, and southeastern U.S., it refers to those incredibly annoying, spindly-legged crane flies. Finally, some associate it with Pholcus phalangioides AKA the cellar spider.
Whoever you call Daddy, the widespread myth that these bugs possess deadly venom but can't bite humans due to small fangs is widely spread, but totally false. In reality, neither crane flies, harvestmen or cellar spiders are venomous. So what’s with the rumor? Probably just a tactical PR move from the Daddy Long Legs community to boost their reputation.
