The Dusky Dolphin can be found in coastal areas of the Southern Hemisphere and takes its name from the Latin for “dark” or “dim” - befitting for an animal that can hunt in total darkness!
These dolphins are known to show off - they are often seen performing moves such as headslaps, tailslaps, spins and noseouts (anyone else getting THPS flashbacks?) These tricks are made all the easier, we presume, by their (relatively) little size - measuring in at just under two meters in length!
They have no conservation status (officially listed as “Data Deficient”) but unfortunately, thanks to increasing human activity (typical), their numbers are declining.
