The concept of fatalism dates way back to the ancient Greeks. It was the philosopher Aristotle who said “What is, necessarily is, when it is; and what is not, necessarily is not, when it is not.” If your head hurts just from reading that, take a nap - you were fated to do so anyway.

More recently, fatalistic humor has been championed by millennials as a way of coping with what has been called a “permacrisis”. Hey, the planet’s dying, may as well post memes and get it over with.
