Flute

The first instrument we created was the Flute, an aerophone that produces sound when a flautist blows across its opening, creating a vibrating column of air.

Since our ancestors first discovered they could make noise without grunting, humanity has been on a non-stop quest to play music. The first instrument we created was the Flute, an aerophone that produces sound when a flautist blows across its opening, creating a vibrating column of air. An early example of this woodwind instrument was found in a cave near Cerkno 60,000 and was declared to be made by neanderthals.

Originally whittled from reed, bamboo, and wood, modern flutes have gone full metal with copper, silver, and platinum versions. The flute family now boasts seven members, from the tiny piccolo to the hulking contrabass. Described as light, juicy, and mellow, the flute's sound is so enchanting it might explain why the Pied Piper chose it for his rodent-removal services.
