Found in the shallow waters of the Western Pacific Ocean, Ancylomenes magnificus AKA the Magnificent Anemone Shrimp is a cleaner shrimp of the Palaemonidae family. Being only 2.5 centimetres long, these shrimp have figured out that the best way to avoid predators is to bunk with the sea's version of a living, breathing booby-trap: the sea anemone.
Decked out in colors that make a box of crayons look dull, they flit around their venomous homes with the confidence of someone wearing plot armour. It's a mutualistic relationship: the shrimp gets protection and leftovers, and in return, it acts as the anemone's personal butler, tidying up and warding off parasites. This underwater partnership shows that sometimes, the key to survival is finding the right roommate - even if they're a bit prickly.
