Let’s face it: the Ornithosuchus was a creature that probably had an identity crisis. This Triassic carnivore, whose name means 'bird crocodile', could walk on two legs like a T-Rex but had a face that only a mother could love (if that mother was a crocodile.) It roamed the Earth around 210 million years ago, likely causing other dinosaurs to scratch their heads in confusion.
Despite its intimidating appearance and impressive length - comparable to two Michael Jordans or half a London bus - it wasn't the apex predator of its time, and likely had to fend off larger predators. Its fossils, mainly found in Scotland, have given us crucial insights into the evolutionary journey from ancient reptiles to the dinosaurs we know and love.
