Piñata

Party guests take turns to swing a stick at the Piñata, a paper-mâché container that is decorated and filled with candy, in order to break it open and enjoy its tasty innards

Compared to the Piñata, the donkey who gets its tail pinned to its body by blindfolded children has it easy. Meanwhile, guests take turns to swing a stick at the Piñata, a paper-mâché container that is decorated and filled with candy, in order to break it open and enjoy its tasty innards.

The original piñata has seven points to symbolise the seven deadly sins: envy, sloth, gluttony, greed, lust, wrath and pride.  The treats falling from the broken piñata are meant to represent God's blessings. However, the more traditional design takes the shape of yet another donkey (honestly, kids seem to have a vendetta against the creatures).

Although they’re a staple of Mexican culture, it’s thought that Piñatas originated in Italy during the Renaissance. "
