Daughter to Gaia and Uranus, Rhea was herself the mother of some big names in Greek mythology, including Poseidon, Zeus and Hades. In a tale of motherly affection (and fatherly less-than-affection), when Kronos began eating all his children to prevent a prophecy declaring that he would lose his power to one, Rhea famously swapped her son, Zeus, with a rock to feed to Kronos, who eventually proves the prophecy correct and frees all his siblings.
While first seen as “Mother of the Gods”, she took a backseat role once Zeus had enacted his revenge. But she can still be found throughout mythology, including raising Party God Dionysus - that can’t have been easy.
