Robert Fludd, also known as Robertus de Fluctibus (quite the mouthful), was an English physician who was recognised for his work in the occult and philosophy. He had quite the academic journey, entering St John's College at Oxford University as a peasant and graduating in 1598 with a Bachelors and masters degree.
After a few well-deserved "gap yahs," he set his sights on the College of Physicians. Fludd's disdain for authority and medical traditions saw him fail the entrance exam six times before finally cracking it in 1609. He gained notoriety for his eyebrow-raising theories on the link between humans and the divine, arguing that everything originated from dark chaos followed by divine light.
