It’s the last stop before Ithaca, and by the time Odysseus gets there, he’s been through a lot: he’s escaped from Cyclops, seen some of his crew transformed into pigs and even journeyed to the underworld. When Odysseus finally washes ashore on Scheria, he's battered by the waves and has no clothes.
Thankfully, Nausicaa, the daughter of King Alcinous, gives him clothes, food, and drink, and directs him to the palace of King Alcinous. There, he pleads for mercy from the queen, Arete, to help him make his way home. Finally, luck favors Odysseus, and the Phaeacians (the people of Scheria) take him to Ithaca on one of their ships. Although Odysseus' tale is fictional, many believe Scheria is the island we know as Corfu, due to its location 110 km from Ithaca.
