Also known as the Monkey King, Sun Wukong is a Chinese trickster god and the main character in Wu Cheng’en’s novel ‘Journey to the West’. Born from a magical rock, Sun Wukong had incredible strength. He was able to lift and support the weight of two ‘heaven mountains’ on his shoulders while running “with the speed of a meteor.” Not only that, but he had the power to transform into precisely 72 different animals and objects.
Sadly, Sun Wukong got cocky (well, who wouldn't?) and so was thrown out of the Jade Emperor’s court for disrespecting the other gods. He also ate all of the Peaches of Immortality – the exact ones he was supposed to guard. As a punishment, the Monkey King was banished from heaven and imprisoned for 500 years.
