With nearly 1,500 species of plant, 70% of which are endemic, Table Mountain is one of the most florally diverse mountains in the world.
It’s South Africa’s most photographed landmark and features on Cape Town’s flag. Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain that stands approximately 1084 metres tall. Given that some of the rocks on Table Mountain date back over 360 million years, this is one of the oldest mountains in the world - aeons older than the Himalayas and the Rockies.
Now considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Table Mountain has over 350 trails for hikers to take to the top. Fortunately for those less avid or able hikers, there’s a cableway that can carry visitors right to the top. Talking of the top, Table Mountain’s flat peak is often shrouded in clouds that are aptly nicknamed the “table cloth”.
