Victor Hugo

Joseph Hugo and Sophie Trebuchet were 3,000 feet up on Mount Donon when they conceived Victor Hugo.

Joseph Hugo and Sophie Trebuchet were 3,000 feet up on Mount Donon when they conceived Victor Hugo. His father often joked that this unique start meant he was destined for greatness, and clearly, he was right. Victor Hugo went on to become a towering literary figure and a key player in shaping French democracy. From the streets of Paris to the barricades of revolt, Hugo's writing captured the essence of humanity and the struggles of injustice.

During his 20-year exile on Guernsey under Napoleon III, he wrote ""Les Misérables"" and other famous works. However, Victor Hugo wasn't just a novelist - his poetry also advocated for political change. When he died, over two million people in Paris followed his funeral procession from the Arc de Triomphe to the Panthéon.
