Nearly seven-and-a-half times as long as The Las Vegas Strip, the Acheron River is located in the Epirus region of northwest Greece. While it is lacking in slot machines and poker tables, the mythology behind this river is renowned.

Despite its vibrant turquoise water and the lush foliage that lines it, it is otherwise known as ‘the river of woe’ and is cited in prominent Greek Mythology as the entrance to the Greek Underworld. If you were to pay a visit you would be met by Charon, the psychopomp ferryman of the underworld, who would kindly lead you alongside the other recently deceased souls across the Acheron to Hades' flaming hell. Personally, we would rather take a gamble on Vegas - at least it has air-conditioning.
