The leader of the "Wild Bunch" gang, Robert LeRoy Parker, AKA Butch Cassidy, dedicated himself to a life of crime.  In 1897, he and cowboy Elza Lay orchestrated an extraordinary heist, making off with a staggering $8,000 from a passing train in Castle Gate. They vanished like smoke, severing telegraph lines along their trail.  

The stolen fortune became the stuff of legends, and no one ever managed to recover it. The treasure remained elusive, possibly hidden somewhere near Robbers Roost or along the winding Outlaw Trail.
