Meet the Common Ringtail Possum - the adorable acrobat of the Australian treetops.
Meet the Common Ringtail Possum - the adorable acrobat of the Australian treetops. Unlike its more famous cousin, the Brushtail, this little marsupial prefers a quieter life up in the leaves. Yet, it plays a key role in the forest ecosystem, helping with seed dispersal and regenerating plant life.
With a prehensile tail that works like an extra limb, these critters are master climbers. They're also the only possums that build complex, spherical nests, called 'dreys', out of leaves.
Thanks to their specialised gut flora, Ringtail Possums can digest eucalyptus leaves efficiently, with no tummy trouble to follow. At night, these sociable creatures come alive, foraging for their aforementioned favourite snack and chilling with their fellow possums. #FriendsforDreys
