Welcome to Death Valley: the furnace of the USA. With the lowest elevation in North America (86 metres below sea level) and the highest reliably reported temperature on Earth (56.7°C), it's a wonder anything survives there. Yet, the Timbisha Shoshone tribe has lived there for over a millennium, mastering the art of 'extreme living'.
As the largest park in the contiguous United States, Death Valley is massive – over 3 million acres. Amidst within this scorching wonderland lies a captivating geological mystery. Imagine rocks defying expectations as they elegantly move across the landscape, leaving behind long trails in their wake. It’s thought to be due to a rare combination of water, ice, and wind, but some of these rocks have travelled as far as 1,500 feet.
