Most painters stick to capturing what they know: life on Earth. Then again, Don Davis isn’t like most painters.
Most painters stick to capturing what they know: life on Earth. Then again, Don Davis isn’t like most painters. Mentored by space art legend Chesley Bonestell, Davis took his passion for the stars to unparalleled heights. His work for NASA, including breathtaking depictions of space colonies, captures the boundless possibilities of human expansion into the cosmos.
But Davis didn't stop at painting. His talents traversed into the realms of animation and visual effects, notably contributing to the visual splendour of Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series. He not only painted the cover of Sagan's Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Dragons of Eden" but also lent his artistry to "Comet" and "Pale Blue Dot,". The asteroid 13330 Dondavis, named in his honour, is a testament to his impact on both art and science.
