Goseck Circle

One of the best preserved solar observatory structures, the Goseck Circle dates back to 4900 B.C and appears to have remained in use until around 4700 B.C.

It took well over 6,000 years to be discovered, but in 1991, a season of drought revealed a mysterious circular structure in the farmland near Goseck, Germany.Captured by archeologist Otto Braasch via aerial photography, the mysterious circle was found to stretch 75 metres across, with two palisade rings containing entrances aligned with sunrise and sunset on winter solstice days and two smaller entrances aligned with the summer solstice. Clearly, this structure was no accident.

One of the best preserved solar observatory structures, the Goseck Circle dates back to 4900 B.C and appears to have remained in use until around 4700 B.C. On closer inspection, excavators also found evidence of ancient animal and human bones, indicating burial rituals took place on the site.
