Hestina Persimilis butterflies can’t read (to our knowledge). But if they could, they might know that they’re legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Hestina Persimilis butterflies can’t read (to our knowledge). But if they could, they might know that they’re legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Kill one of these and you’ll be given life in jail with no parole. Okay, that’s an exaggeration - but why would you want to harm something so beautiful anyway?
An East Palearctic species of siren butterfly, Hestina Persimilis has markings similar to a Rorschach Test. However, given the flappy nature of the butterfly, it’s probably unreliable as a psychological assessment. The species has three subspecies: H. p. persimilis (found in Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan), H. p. zella, (found in Kashmir) and H. p. chinensis (found in West China).
