Hailing from the Perche province of France, the Percheron is a draft horse known for its powerful proud posture, large size and muscular physique. In fact, two of the top 5 biggest horses of history (Goliath and Dr LeGear) were Percheron horses. The latter boasted a height of 21 hands (roughly 2.1 metres) and weighed a whopping 1,359 kilograms. Granted, that’s only half of the weight of a Blue Whale’s tongue, but it’s also twice the weight of a grizzly bear.
Unlike the grizzly bear, the Percheron is a gentle giant, famous for its calm temperament. And that’s not all it's got going for it! This literal dark horse is rated for its stamina, and can supposedly cover nearly 40 miles a day at a trot!
