They’re the national flower of Haiti, Malaysia and South Korea, but they also double up as sloth chocolate. Hibiscus, a type of plant from the mallow family, comes in colours ranging from white to pink, red, orange, to blue, yellow or purple - and we’re not kidding about sloths.

Since these creatures have a very low metabolic rate, they can survive on small amounts of food, so a hibiscus flower is like a tasty dessert to them. As well as their sweet flavour, hibiscus flowers have a high amount of vitamin C, so can be used to make an immune-boosting herbal tea.

Depending on the species, hibiscus can grow in the form of an evergreen bush or a tree that can grow to reach 15 feet in height.
