The Li-Lo trademark, derived from the phrase “lie-low”, was first registered in the UK in 1944, and the inflatable air mattress for recreational use was advertised as one of the Li-Lo brand of products at the British Industries Fair in London 1949. Long before that (we’re talking 1800s), air mattresses had been conceptualised and prototyped by inventors looking to revolutionise sleep. It was only so long before their designs would collide with flotation devices to create a timeless pool toy.
