Behold Mnemosyne, the universe's hard drive before hard drives existed; the Greek goddess of memory and mother of all knowledge. Born to Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky), Mnemosyne made sure we didn’t forget things like words and language, which is important unless you’re into grunting and pointing. She's best known for her fling with Zeus (though honestly, who wasn't Zeus involved with?).
Their nine-night affair produced the nine Muses - divine inspirations for everything from poetry to astronomy. Down in the underworld, she maintained two very different pools: The Pool of Memory let souls remember their past lives, while its neighbour, the Pool of Lethe, offered the sweet embrace of forgetfulness.
