They weigh the same as a silverback gorilla and boast a length that surpasses a fully grown polar bear. The Galapagos Shark is one big boi.
They weigh the same as a silverback gorilla and boast a length that surpasses a fully grown polar bear. The Galapagos Shark is one big boi. They’re so-named for the islands where their species was first discovered, but don’t let that fool you: these sharks are the marine equivalent of Pitbull AKA "Mr Worldwide" as they’re found in tropical waters across the globe.
If the Galapagos Shark feels attacked, he’ll let you know by displaying what is known as a Threat Posture: look out for an arched back and erratic swimming. If you ignore the warning signs and keep provoking him, watch out. Think you can hide? Think again - this shark’s acute sense of smell means it can hone in on a scent from hundreds of miles away.
