Unsurprisingly, it’s one of the most popular breeds of small dog: the Pomeranian is a real-life teddy bear. But don’t underestimate this cute ball of fluff – back in the day, the breed used to pull sleds and herd animals. However, in those times (the 18th century), Poms were much bigger. They weighed around 30 pounds and were all white.
But Queen Victoria was a big fan of the breed, and also favoured dogs on the smaller size. So, she had them bred to be smaller, and by the end of her reign, the breed had shrunk in size by 50%. Just over a decade later, the Titanic sunk, and two Pomeranians were among the only three dogs to survive!
