Take a leaf out of the Walking Palm’s book and walk away to better ground.
Feeling stuck? Don’t stay put. Take a leaf out of the Walking Palm’s book and walk away to better ground. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the aptly named Walking Palm, or Socratea exorrhiza, doesn’t settle for bad conditions. Thanks to its stilt roots that grow outward, this tree is able to explore new territory. Sure, it's not exactly sprinting to new spots, but through gradual root growth and strategic leaning, it moves to more favourable locales over time.
But there's more to this palm than its unique locomotion. The stilt roots actually make the palm more stable, allowing it to grow to impressive heights at a greater speed, creating a shady haven in its crown of leaves for arboreal creatures of the forest.
