While English weather is typically known for being rainy, grey, and miserable, it's rarely considered exciting. However, the first storm ever identified as a Supercell was, surprisingly, the Wokingham storm over England in 1962.
Of all thunderstorm classifications, Supercells are the rarest and potentially most severe. Characterised by a mesocyclone (a rotating updraft), these storms can last up to four hours and affect weather up to 20 miles away - that's about eight-and-a-half times the length of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
If you ever spot an ominous, swirling cloud heading your way, looking like something straight out of a disaster movie, don't stick around for the credits. It's probably time to make like a British person caught in the rain and scarper!
