While taking a rowboat down a volcanic gorge past a beautiful waterfall sounds far too good to be true, this is exactly what to expect from a visit to Takachiho Gorge.
While taking a rowboat down a volcanic gorge past a beautiful waterfall sounds far too good to be true, this is exactly what to expect from a visit to Takachiho Gorge. Found in Miyazaki Forest on Kyushu Island in Japan, Takachiho Gorge is a magical sight.
If you decide to go adventuring, the best time to try to get the very best view is in summer or autumn (although apparently it’s still stunning in the winter). If you want to get even more specific, the best time of day is around 10-11am when the sun perfectly hits the Minainotaki Waterfall, creating a beautiful golden glow around the 17m of cascading water. It can get pretty busy with tourists but it’s probably going to be worth it for that view.
If you’re not a fan of boats (or are convinced you’d end up right under the waterfall), you can always take the footpath above and walk along the edge of the gorge instead.
