Ever had a day so perfect you wish you could relive it? Well, good news: you will! And then you’ll do it again. And again. …And again. Think Groundhog Day, but for your whole life.
Popularized by the moustachioed philosopher who said "God is dead” (Friedrich Nietzsche), the basic idea of Eternal Return is that the whole history of the universe has happened before and will happen again. There is no beginning or end. Building on Pythagorean and Stoic philosophy, Nietzsche arrived at a sort of “mantra” for living the same life over and over: "The question which thou wilt have to answer before every deed that thou doest: 'is this such a deed as I am prepared to perform an incalculable number of times?” So basically, the opposite of YOLO.
