A five point star can conjure images of cloven hooves, evil demons and Satan himself. But, at its core, the Pentagram is not a sign of evil. In fact, its origins lie in ancient Sumerian, where the symbol was used to represent the human physical body.
Later, occult groups like the Golden Dawn held that the point-up pentagram symbolised the rulership of Spirit over the physical elements, and the upright pentagram was used in rituals to drive away evil and other unwanted energy.
But it was 20th century Hollywood that propagated the pentagram as a symbol of Satan-worshipping. Although the Church of Satan uses the upside down pentagram with a goat head as their official symbol, they aren’t actually devil worshippers - just atheists.
