Meet Beelzebufo, or the “frog from hell” - a prehistoric frog from Madagascar that could have eaten baby dinosaurs. Thought to be the largest frog that ever lived, Beelzebufo had a body the size of a beach ball. Coupled with an expansive mouth and a bite-force between 500 and 2,200 newtons, this isn’t a frog you would mess with. Plus, if it shared the sit-and-wait ambush tactics of living horned toads, this devil frog would have been a formidable predator.
But killing abilities aside, the presence of Beelzebufo on Madagascar posed a puzzling question for scientists: how did the modern relatives of this frog end up in South America? Either a land connection still existed 70 million years ago, or Beelzebufo sold its soul for the ability to teleport.
